Short Biography


Eugene ZALESKI was Directeur de Recherche at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, Paris, and Director of Seminar at the Institut d'Etude Politiques, Paris, France. He was born in 1918 in Lwow, Poland and died in Paris, France in 2001. Graduated for the University of Lwow in 1940 he obtained his PhD at the University of Paris in 1949. He was Associated at the Russian Research Center, Harvard University in 1956/1957, Senior Research Fellow at the department of Economics, University of Virginia in 1962/1963, Visiting scholar at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University in 1984/1985 and was elected Fellow of St Anthony's College, Oxford University (1986). He mainly specialized in soviet economic planning and technology transfer between the Communist East and the West before 1989.

Eugene ZALESKI, member of the Polish Underground Army during the last war was arrested by Nazi Germans and spent almost two years in German concentration camps, Auschwitz and Mauthausen.
